Midjourney is an independent research lab whose models turn text prompts into images. V8.1 became the default image model in June 2026, and a V8.2 image model followed in July. It also has a video model, released in June 2025. The main interface is the midjourney.com website, and Discord is still supported.

OpenAI builds the GPT family of models and ChatGPT. In its API, GPT-6 Astra is the flagship model for complex reasoning and coding, and GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra and Luna trade intelligence against cost. It also offers GPT-Image-2.5 for image generation and editing, GPT-Transcribe for speech-to-text, and GPT-Live and GPT-Realtime models for voice. New integrations build on the Responses API; the older Assistants API was shut down on 26 August 2026.
